Saturday began with previous winners Ace Farrell, E.J. Wholey and Sabatino in the first group. Sabatino shot a smooth 72 while Farrell (77) and Wholey (82) struggled. Finishing the first day in second place, two shots back at 74 was Frank Hauser while tournament director Richard Farrell, Jack Griffin and Dave Cirinna all posted rounds of 76. Others still in the hunt included two-time playoff participant Sandy Farrell (77), Skip Hingley (77), Brian Hauser (77), John Naylor (77), Jack Kelly (78) and Steve Tancrell (79).
Sunday's final group of Sabatino, Griffin, Frank Hauser, and Rich Farrell prepared for battle in different ways on Saturday night. While Sabatino went home and rested and Griffin disappeared into the night, Hauser and Farrell celebrated their first round success at Cady's Tavern. Hoping for a big day on Sunday, Hauser was home by midnight, while rumor has it that Farrell did not arrive in Burrillville until 4 am on Sunday.
The final day of competition began with Sabatino bogeying the first hole while Hauser parred, tying the two for the tournament lead. However, Hauser's house of cards came tumbling down when he "rinsed" the ball on the par-3 fourth hole and was never again a factor. Following his bogey on the first, Sabatino calmly birdied the third hole and ended up even par on the front nine, giving him a five shot lead over the field at the turn. After a shaky stretch from the 11th through the 13th holes, Sabatino recovered to par 14, 15 and 16 while noone in the final group could make any type of charge.
Seemingly having clinched the tournament, Sabatino dumped his tee shot in the right bunker on the par-3 17th hole. Just then, word came out that Hingley had played the last six holes three under par for a final round score of 70, one under par. Sabatino, therefore had only a two shot lead. He promptly blasted out to eight feet and made the putt for par, leaving him needing only a bogey on 18 for the title. While Hingley could only hope for a Pete Jr move on 18, Sabatino made a smooth par winning the tournament in record fashion.
Highlights of the Championship Flight included Sabatino's record setting total of 145 and the first ever Sunday Burrillville Open sub-par round by Hingley. Hingley's best ever showing in tournament play tab him as a key man in stopping Sabatino's streak next year. After his big night on the town, Rich Farrell came back with a solid 74 to finish third.

Sunday began with Dalfonso and Moulico lurking in the final group waiting for one of Yosh's patented meltdowns. Two years prior in the club championship, Yosh had been the first round leader and promptly began the second round by hitting two balls out of bounds on the first tee (one across the 18th fairway and into the Race Track). There would be none of that nonsense this time though as he calmly drilled his opening tee ball into the 18th fairway and made par.
The day turned into a slug-fest as Dalfonso, Moulico and a late charging Jim Waterman stayed on Yosh's heels. Despite a 9 on the par-5 10th hole, Yosh was able to right the ship and cruise to the 18th hole with a five shot lead over Dalfonso. There, the pressure finally got to him. After yanking his drive under a tree and chipping out to 90 yards on the par-4 18th hole, he skanked the ball into a front left green-side bunker. Moulico was later heard to say that "Yosh never got the club above his knee on his back swing". Now leaking oil faster than the Exon Valdes, he entered the bunker and considered his options. Blast and bring the parking lot into play? Not a chance. He "pussy scooped" the ball out of the bunker and two-putted for his six and the championship.
Yosh's tournament total of 156 broke Moulico's 1999 record of 157. Other highlights included roaring comebacks by Waterman, posting a 77 on Sunday to tie for third place, and his Uxbridge compatriot Dalfonso who made a great comeback on Saturday to shoot a sizzling 33 on the back nine after a front nine of 45, getting him back in the hunt, eventually finishing second.

After the first day, Potter led a trio of Uxbridge players, Sabatino and Wayne Morvan by one stroke and Peter Beane by two. Three back at 83 were Dave Turbidy and Bobby Dionne. Three time former winner Wayne Rivet was unable to break 90.
On Sunday, Potter and Sabatino went head to head with Potter coming out on top while also breaking two tournament records: low round (77) and low tournament score (157) which was also broken by Sabatino at 160. Morvan held on to finish third at 164, seven shots off the pace. In a result which has many future implications, Burrillville HS football star Jonathan Murphy defeated his father, long time competitor Mark Murphy by one stroke.
Following his second year as runner-up, Sabatino was again heard to say "I'm still the greatest".
